Summary of Modern Studies on Zhushao Anchang (IntestinEase™) Capsule

 

Chinese Use:Acute or chronic enteritis, syndrome, colonitis, hydrops labyrinthi.

 

Modern studies on pharmacodynamics reveal that this product yields actions of relaxing smooth muscle of the digestive treat, inhibition of gastric secretion, anti-peptic ulcer, and bacteriostatic effect.

1        Relaxing smooth muscle of digestive tract: This product markedly inhibits the intestinal movements of rabbit in vivo and in vitro; markedly relieves the spasm of intestine induced by chloro-acetylcholine, pilocarpin, physostigmine salicylate, and barium chloride. Further experiments show that this product acts mainly through blocking of M receptor. It also yields rather strong anti-histamine action, inhibit the pushing movements of the small intestine.

2        Inhibiting gastric secretion: This product markedly inhibits the gastric acid secretion in rat, however, it doesn’t affect the gastric acidity. It also markedly inhibits the secretion of gastric acid in rat induced by histamine, pentagastrin.

3        Anti-ulcer: it markedly inhibits peptic ulcer due to pylorus ligation in rat with a dose of 25g/kg, 75g/kg, the rate of inhibition being 68% and 98% respectively.

4        Bacteriostasis: In a culture base, the concentration of 25% of this product inhibits the growth of Dysenteric bacilli, E.Coli and staphylococci.

 

Clinically, this product is applied in acute and chronic enteritis, irritable enteric syndrome and Méniere’s syndrome.

1        Acute enteritis: 60 cases were treated with a cured rate of 90%, total effective rate being 98%, the amount of administration being 3 doses at most, and 1 dose at least. Generally, 1~2 doses are enough without side effects.

2        Chronic diarrhea: 45 infantile cases were treated. Except 2 cases with incomplete data, all 43 cases were cured in a 1 month follow-up.

3        Irritable enteritis syndrome: 187 cases were treated with this product plus Sishen Pill. The results revealed a total effective rate of 89.9%. Average time for disappearance of abdominal pain and diarrhea is 6.8 days. 95 cases were followed up for 1 year, 82 cases showed no relapse, representing 86%; 73 cases were relapsed, 11 cases were re-treated effectively, only 9 cases were ineffective.

4        Chronic enteritis, ulcerative colitis: 124 cases of chronic enteritis were treated. 25 cases were cured; 68 cases, markedly effective; 23 cases, ameliorated; total effective rate being 93.55%. This product with additives were applied in treatment of 21 cases of ulcerative colitis. All cases were examined and diagnosed through enteroscopy. After 20~90 days of therapy, 11 cases revealed normal enteroscopic exam, 9 cases markedly ameliorated in symptoms, only 1 case was ineffective.

5        Méniere’s syndrome: 34 cases were treated with this product with additives, 31 cases were cured (disappearance of symptoms, with normal hearing); 2 cases, ameliorated; only 1 case was ineffective.
