Summary of Modern Studies on Rukuaixiao (Mammary Care™)Capsule

 

Chinese Use: Hyperplasia of mammary glands.

 

This product is indicated in hyperplasia of mammary gland due to stagnated liver –qi, hemostasis and qi-stagnation. The treating principles include soothing the liver, regulating qi, activating blood flow and resolving stasis, dispersing mammary lumps.

 

In this recipe, Folium Citri recticulatae is pungent, bitter with dispersing and descending actions, pertains to the liver hannel, capable of soothing the liver, regulating qi, dispersing stagnated accumulation and anti-swelling. It is used as the monarchal ingredient. Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae is bitter-slightly cold, capable of activating blood flowing, regulating menstruation, cooling blood, resolving abscess, and is a main medicament for solving stasis. Semen Vaccariae is bitter-plain, pertains to the liver channel, capable of activating blood, promoting menstrual flow, promoting lactation, and resolving abscess. Both are served as ministerial ingredients in the recipe. Fructus Meliae toosandan is bitter-cold with discending action, pertains to the liver channel, capable of clearing liver fire, reducing stagnant fever, activating qi to stop pain., Spina Gleditsiae is pungeut-warm, with dredging action, capable of dispersing swelling and expelling pus. Lumbricus is salty-cold, pertains to the liver channel. All the above 3 ingredients are applied for strengthening the action of activating blood, resolving stasis, regulating qi, dispersing mammary lumps, and are served as the   adjuvant and servant ingredients. The recipe yields the actions of soothing liver-qi, smoothing blood flow, dispersing mammary lump, as a result, the lumps and stasis of liver-qi and blood are all resolved.

 

Modern studies on pharmacodynamics show that this product yields the actions of improving blood flowing, anti-inflammation, regulating endocrine secretion.

1.                              Improving blood circulation: Radix Salvial miltiorrhizae, lumbricus, Fructus Meeiae toosandan are capable of improving blood circulation.

2.                              Anti-inflammation: Radix Salvial miltiorrhizae, lumbricus, Folium Citri recticulatae all yield actions of anti-inflammation, inhibiting inflammatory exudates and hyperplasia of tissue fibres.

3.                              Regulating hormone secretion: Semen Vaccariae regulates hormone secretion, elevates the secretion level of progesterone.

Toxicological studies: The greatest tolerant dosage of animal oral administration is 217.2g/kg; an equivalent to 1061.06 times of an adult oral dosage.

Clinically, this product was applied in hyperplasia of mammary gland.

105 cases were treated with this product in a dose of 6 tablets, b.i.d., with 3 month as a therapeutic course. After 3 courses of treatment, 50 cases were cured; 16, ameliorated; 9, ineffective; 105 cases in the control group (no treatment given), the cured rate was 8.6%.
