Summary of Modern Studies on Digu Ninggeng (Midlife Soother) Capsules

Modern studies on pharmacologic action prove that Digu Ninggeng (Midlife Soother) Capsule yields the following actions: 1

1. Adjustment on endocrine system

It can adjust endocrine system of the elder female rat, increase the level of plasma estradiol, and improve secretion function of the ovary.

2.Anti-hypoxia

It can enhance the anti-hypoxia tolerance of mice under normal pressure and reduced pressure.

3.Sedation

It can prolong the hours of sleep of the mice administrated with pentobarbital.

4. Soothing functional disorder of autonomic nerve

It can enhance humoral immunity, and specific or nonspecific cellular immune function. It also can improve the nervous system function by soothing the functional disorder of autonomic nerve to relieve the symptoms.

Studies on toxicology

Decoction of Ning Geng Cranule was administrated to mice at the dose of 150 times human dose, two times per day. Observe for 7 days and no case was found dead and abnormal.

Clinically, this product is commonly used to treat female climacteric syndrome, depression and neurosis that are classified into internal heat due to yin deficiency and psyche inquietude in TCM.

1. 76 cases with female climacteric syndrome were administrated with this product, 4 capsules per time and 3 times per day, for continuous 2 months. According to the statistics, the total effective rate was 88.16%, including 4 cases of substantially recovered at the rate of 5.26%, 28 cases of remarkably improved at the rate of 36.85%, 35 cases of improved at the rate of 46.05%, and 9 cases of ineffective at the rate of 11.84%.

2. 58 cases with depression were administrated with this product, 4 capsules per time and 3 times per day, for continuous 2 months. According to the statistics, the total effective rate was 84.48%, including 3 cases of substantially recovered at the rate of 5.17%, 20 cases of remarkably improved at the rate of 34.48%, 26 cases of improved at the rate of 44.83%, and 9 cases of ineffective at the rate of 15.52%.

• 48 cases with neurosis were administrated with this product, 4 capsules per time and 3 times per day, for continuous 2 months. According to the statistics, the total effective rate was 81.25%, including 3 cases of substantially recovered at the rate of 6.25%, 15 cases of remarkably improved at the rate of 31.25%, 21 cases of improved at the rate of 43.75%, and 9 cases of ineffective at the rate of 18.75%.
