Summary of Modern Studies on Shenlian Zaizao (Regenerator™) Capsule

 

Chinese Use: Lung cancer, stomach cancer.

 

This product is indicated in lung cancer and stomach cancer. The treating principle is clearing heat, detoxication, activating blood, eliminating stasis, attacking hardness, and resolving mass, regulating qi to disperse stagnancy. The aim of treatment is ameliorating symptoms and decreasing misery.

In the recipe, Herba Hedyotis diffusae is bitter-cold, with stronger action of clearing heat and detoxication. Herba Scutellarial barbatae is pungent-bitter-cool, pertains to the lung-liver channels, also capable of clearing heat and detoxifying. Radix Sophorae subprostratae is bitter-cold, pertains to the lung-stomach channel. It clears heat, detoxifies, facilitates the pharynx, and anti-swelling. Flos Lonicerae is pungent warm, pertains to the spleen-stomach channel and lung channel. It clears heat, detoxifies and cools blood, the above 5 ingredients yields strong action of clearing heat and detoxifying and are used as the monarchal ingredient. Rhizoma Polygoni cuspidatae is bitter-cold, pertain to the lung channel. It clears heat and detoxifies, activates blood circulation, eliminating blood stasis, expelling phlegm, and arresting coughing. Indigo Naturalis is salty-cold, pertains to the lung-stomach channels. It also clears heat, detoxifies, cools blood and arrests hemorrhage. Both are used as ministerial ingredients. Fructus Chaenomelis speciosa is sour-warm, pertains to the liver-spleen channels. It eliminates dampness, harmonizes the stomach, relaxing the channel-collaterals to arrest pain. Radix Stephaneae tetrandrae is bitter-pungent-cold, pertains to the spleen-stomach channels. It strengthens the spleen, harmonizes the stomach and resolving dampness. Radix Sophorae flavescentis is bitter-cold, pertains to the stomach channel. It clears heat and dries up dampness. All the above applied together can strengthen the actions of strengthening the spleen, harmonizing the stomach, eliminating dampness. Rhizoma Sparganii and Rhizoma Zedoariae are bitter warm, pertains to the spleen channel. It drastically activates stasis and qi flowing to arrest pain. Radix Salvia miltiorrhizae is bitter-cold, and is an essential drug for activating blood and resolving stasis. The above three used together are for strengthening the action of activating blood and resolving stasis to arrest pain. Fructus Chelbulae, Fructus Mume are all sour and puckery, pertain to the lung channel. Both used together are for strengthening the astringency of the lung to stop coughing. Semen Allii tuberosi is pungent-sweet-warm, pertains to the liver-kidney channels. It warms the liver and kidney and invigorates yang. Fructus Soraleae is bitter-warm, pertains to the kidney-spleen channel. It benefits the kidney and invigorates yang, calms down asthma to accept qi flowing. When used together with Ginseng, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, iE invigorates qi, Rhizoma Polygonati replenishes the kidney, moistens the lung; strengthens the spleen and invigorates qi. It eliminates the pathogens without harming he body, and qi and blood are activated to circulate. All the above are adjuvant ingredients. Aloe is a cathartic, eliminates fidgetiness, apricot nut is an antitussive. When they are used together the pathogens can be driven out. Radix Glycyrrhiza can benefit the inferior, and invigorate qi, clear heat, detoxify, eliminate phlegm, arrest coughing and pain. It also regulates all ingredients. The above 3 are servant ingredients.

 

Studies on pharmacodynamics:

This product can inhibits tumor: Gastric perfusion in the dosages of 1g/kg, 2g/kg, 4g/kg, equivalent to 5.6, 11.2, 22.4 times the clinical dosage of man, for 7 consecutive days. It markedly inhibits the tumor growth. The result is similar to the control group treated with Tianxian pills.

 

Toxicological studies: by gastric perfusion, the maximal tolerance dosage is 32.1g/kg.

 

Clinical application

304 case (202 in experimental group, 102 control group) were treated. The effective and stable rate of treating group was 80%, that of control group, 58.3%, with significant difference. This product yielded certain action on inhibition of tumor.
